Stephen Kinder

Stephen Kinder was Born in West London in 1970. He has always found great comfort in the landscape, and is constantly drawn to reflect this connection in the form of paintings both as small pieces on location and large studio pieces.

His work intends to be a reaction to the essence of a place.By working instinctively and from a direct response to a landscape gives a freshness and quality of colour that helps to depict the fleeting atmospheric changes that occur in nature. The ever-changing spirit or mood of a place is an inspiration to Stephen and one that he constantly engages in within each painting.
Some of these places and landscapes he will re-visit time and again and it is through his exploration and reflections that he has developed a deeper understanding of certain locations. Most of his paintings tend to be from the beautiful Surrey Hills and the south coast.

Stephen has been Head of Creative Arts at Prior’s Field School in Godalming for the past 16 years and regularly has both solo and group exhibitions. Stephen exhibits both nationally and internationally and also works to private commissions.
