BLACK DOG: THE DREAMS OF PAUL NASH
10TH ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION
SEPTEMBER 24TH TO OCTOBER 25TH 2026
Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash was commissioned by 14-18Now, the Imperial War Museum and the Lakes Festival as part of First World War centenary commemorations. The graphic novel and live performance trace British landscape artist Paul Nash’s time as an officer in Ypres and how war transformed both his art and character. He entered as a young, idealistic symbolist and emerged hardened, angry, expressive and politically committed—not simply an “artist”, but a “messenger” driven to show people at home the truth of war, “wipe the cant and lies from English life”, and reveal how violence against the land reflects the violence we inflict on one another.
The exhibition presents original pages and drawings from the graphic novel, offering a rare glimpse into the book’s creative process.
It also includes several works by Paul Nash.
Additional featured artists include John Nash, Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.
