Margot Lemons

Margot’s work is hand sewn and embroidered images.

“My art is a visual language, it has helped me to express my inner feelings and turn my experiences into creative pieces.

A single piece can tell a story or contain the deepest emotions, unlike spoken words it can be interpreted in many ways that differ from person to person. It allows me to express infinitely complex and indescribable thoughts, feelings and emotions in something tangible.

My work reads as a rollercoaster of colour and meanings. I like to experiment with different medias and to challenge how you are ‘supposed’ to work with them. I use textiles, knitting, embroidery and more unorthodox tools alongside traditional mediums such as paint, drawing and print.

I often use contrasting textures and, to make the work tactile, combine and juxtapose soft and hard fibres with bold colours. I want the viewer to be drawn to touch the piece and feel the textures. I like to challenge myself and I am always trying to put a twist on projects, aiming to think outside of the box. I like my work to challenge the viewer and to divide opinion. It doesn't matter if you love or loath my work, at least you have made a decision, it has left a mark on your mind.
