These Days

The ‘These Days’ paintings are Richard’s latest series of work which he’s been working on for the past year. Some of the pieces in the series were created in response to the human suffering in the news and others were inspired by people’s stories, evoking feelings of compassion, empathy and joy.
For Richard, painting is a magical act to push back against all the terrible and, at times, overwhelming events we are living through. The studio is a place where help is born. The paintings were created by applying and abrading paint and reapplying layers of opaque colour to leave jewel-like pockets within.
